Ternion Athletics has been providing functional movement instruction in Nederland, TX since 2012. Originally founded as a group fitness program, centered around high-intensity, intervals, & functional training, Ternion Athletics has evolved into a more personalized, wellness improvement program that incorporates many different training modalities in the general prescription; each unique to every individual.
Everyone who begins training here falls into one of 3 categories.

Function is the foundation of everything we do at Ternion Athletics. If your body doesn’t move well, nothing else matters — not fitness, and certainly not athletic performance.
Our Functional Intensity Training fitness program is designed to help you move pain-free, build resilience, and restore proper movement patterns so your body works the way it was intended to; efficiently, and pain free.
This isn’t random exercise or rehab disguised as training. It’s a systematic approach to improving how your joints, muscles, and nervous system work together — whether you’re coming back from injury, dealing with chronic aches, or simply want to feel better in daily life.
We assess how you move, identify limitations or compensations, and build a plan that addresses the root cause — not just the symptoms.
This is training for people who want to feel better now and stay strong for life.
Adults with back, knee, shoulder, or hip pain
Athletes returning from injury
Seniors looking to maintain independence
You
As an athlete entering the FIT program, we begin by focusing on improving range of motion, building a base of endurance, and learning the fundamentals of proper nutrition. This is where the blueprint for your comeback gets drawn up. Check out the details on the program below!

The first 6 sessions are centered around determining current functional ability. Through a series of bodyweight movements, we test range of motion, balance, flexibility, coordination, and establish a baseline work capacity. Additionally, we introduce the fundamentals of performance & weight-loss nutrition, and recovery.
The second group of 6 sessions is where we begin to re-visit the movements introduced in Phase I, to refine functional movement patterns, and therapeutically address the range of motion limitations observed. balance issues, coordination, or other things that could challenge one's ability to perform activities of daily living.
After (12) twelve, 1-on-1 sessions, athletes move into the phase of developing a sustainable routine that integrates with the demands of their life outside of the gym, and training. With the blueprint created over Phase I & II, our time shifts to more detailed work, while the athlete continues working on their own on each established goal.
This isn't my quote, but when I came across it, it stuck with me. I am not in the business of motivating people to care about themselves enough to improve their ability. Only once you've made your mind up that you're going to do whatever it takes, will this program fit you.
Head Coach & Director of Programming
I began my professional career working for a distributor of orthopedic bracing, and physical therapy devices. Not long after graduating college, I formed my own business, offering an expanded line of therapeutic equipment, and supplies. In working closely with Orthopedic Surgeons, PT's, OT's, CHT's and their patients for over 4 years, I learned a great deal about manual therapy, and rehabilitation after injury, surgery, or issues from overuse.
Later in my career, I worked as an orthopedic surgical consultant with a company that specialized in soft tissue reconstruction. It gave me an even greater opportunity to understand the mechanisms of injury, the impacts of overuse, and the importance of being prepared for anything. Our greatest threats are accidents waiting to happen. Resiliency is key, and it can be trained.

I'm the Dad of Olivia, have 3 brothers, 2 sisters, 4 parents, a growing herd of nieces, and nephews, and some amazing aunts, uncles, and grandparents. I'm in business for myself, full-time, and spread myself out as evenly as I can over my main passions. In general, I'm working to build stronger people, businesses, and communities. Ternion is where I get to be the most hands on, and share wisdom that I feel brings people the most value of any that I possess.

I feel that my background around physical therapy, orthopedic surgery, as an athlete, and as a patient, has provided me with a perspective that enables me to help a wide range of people with a variety of challenges. My greatest motivator is finding ways to apply my abilities, and share wisdom, most of which, I acquired, to help as many people as possible. As a Coach, I've worked with a couple thousand clients over the years. I used to be focused on how many people I could reach with my philosophy. Now, I'm concentrated on how much I can get out of, and achieve WITH one person at a time

"Six workouts in and I am seeing results in overall strength & stamina. The combination of skill training, and interval training, has given me the confidence to continue on this journey..."
Annette
I'm stronger and leaner than anything I've done previously. On top of the physical gains, the knowledge I've gained is worth ten times more. Learning proper techniques has been key to such substantial gains. The coaches know their stuff."
Chris
It is no exaggeration that the day I picked up the phone and called Chad Gary and talked about Ternion and walked into that gym for the first time, my life changed for good. "
Collin
I'm doing one on one personal training with Chad. I have had a lot of personal trainers over the years, but I have to say, Chad is the best! He pays so attention to your technique, which I've never had before, and now realize why I had so many injuries in the past. "
