Youth Sports Performance Training

At Ternion Athletics, our sports performance training helps young athletes build the strength, power, and movement mechanics required to get faster and more explosive in their sport. Our training system develops the physical tools athletes need to run faster, move better, and compete with confidence.

Why Speed Development Matters in Youth Athletics

Speed is one of the most valuable athletic traits in nearly every sport. Whether an athlete competes in football, baseball, soccer, volleyball, track, or basketball, the ability to accelerate quickly, change direction, and maintain explosive movement can dramatically impact performance.

But speed is not simply something athletes are born with. Speed can be trained and developed through the right combination of:

  • Strength Development

  • Explosive Power Training

  • Proper Sprint Mechanics

  • Movement Efficiency

  • Neuromuscular Coordination

Our training programs are designed to help athletes build these qualities safely and progressively so they can perform at a higher level while reducing their risk of injury.

The Ternion Athletics Performance System

At Ternion Athletics, sports performance training is built around three essential components of athletic development.

I. Strength Development

Strength is the foundation of athletic performance. When athletes develop stronger muscles and more stable joints, they gain the ability to apply greater force into the ground, which directly impacts speed and power.

Our strength training programs focus on:

  • Lower body strength for acceleration

  • Core stability for force transfer

  • Upper body strength for total athletic power

  • Joint stability and durability

This foundation allows athletes to generate more force with every step they take.

II. Explosive Power Training

Power is the ability to apply strength quickly. This is what allows athletes to jump higher, sprint faster, and react explosively during competition.

We develop power through carefully structured exercises such as:

  • Plyometrics

  • Jump mechanics

  • Medicine ball training

  • Reactive drills

  • Olympic lift progressions (age appropriate)

These methods train the nervous system to produce force rapidly — which is critical for speed.

III. Speed Mechanics & Sprint Training

Running faster is not only about strength. It is also about efficient movement mechanics.

Many athletes lose speed because they have never been taught proper sprint mechanics. Our training focuses on:

  • Acceleration technique

  • Stride efficiency

  • Ground contact mechanics

  • Arm drive and posture

  • Deceleration and change-of-direction control

When these elements improve, athletes can translate their strength and power into true on-field speed.

Who This Program Is For

Our sports performance training is designed for athletes who want to take their development seriously.

This program is ideal for:

  • Middle school athletes developing foundational strength

  • High school athletes preparing for varsity competition

  • Athletes looking to improve speed and explosiveness

  • Youth athletes preparing for off-season development

Our goal is to build athletes who are not only faster and stronger, but also more durable and confident in their movement.

Sports We Commonly Train

Athletes from many sports benefit from structured performance training.

Our programs support athletes in:

  • Football

  • Baseball & Softball

  • Soccer

  • Basketball

  • Volleyball

  • Track & Field

  • Multi-Sport Athletes

Because the foundation of athletic performance — speed, strength, and power — applies across nearly every sport.

Long-Term Athletic Development

Youth performance training should not simply try to make athletes tired. The goal is to develop the athlete for the long term.

At Ternion Athletics we focus on:

  • Proper Movement Patterns

  • Progressive strength development

  • Injury prevention strategies

  • Confidence and discipline through training

This approach helps athletes improve their performance now while also building the physical foundation needed for future competition.

Start Your Athlete’s Performance Training

Meet the Coach

CHAD GARY

Head Coach & Director of Programming

I began my professional career working for a distributor of orthopedic bracing, and physical therapy devices. Not long after graduating college, I formed my own business, offering an expanded line of therapeutic equipment, and supplies. In working closely with Orthopedic Surgeons, PT's, OT's, CHT's and their patients for over 4 years, I learned a great deal about manual therapy, and rehabilitation after injury, surgery, or issues from overuse.

Later in my career, I worked as an orthopedic surgical consultant with a company that specialized in soft tissue reconstruction. It gave me an even greater opportunity to understand the mechanisms of injury, the impacts of overuse, and the importance of being prepared for anything. Our greatest threats are accidents waiting to happen. Resiliency is key, and it can be trained.

COACHING EXPERIENCE

CLUTCH CROSSFIT: 2011 (Coach)

TERNION CROSSFIT: 2012 (Co-Founder)

TERNION ATHLETICS: 2014 (Founder) - Current: Head Coach & Director of Programming

I feel that my background around physical therapy, orthopedic surgery, as an athlete, and as a patient, has provided me with a perspective that enables me to help a wide range of people with a variety of challenges. My greatest motivator is finding ways to apply my abilities, and share wisdom, most of which, I acquired, to help as many people as possible. As a Coach, I've worked with a couple thousand clients over the years. I used to be focused on how many people I could reach with my philosophy. Now, I'm concentrated on how much I can get out of, and achieve WITH one person at a time
